Couples & Relationship CounselingWhen I work with couples, I am witnessing two internal systems colliding and triggering reactive patterns. Using techniques drawn from IFS, Psychodynamic and Attachment theories, I guide each partner to develop their own internal connection to their own Self. This begins the new conversations and expectations and the changes in how each sees and knows the other. The depth of healing, repair and relating with each other "from the inside out" is my approach in this work. It's compelling, compassionate and inviting, not threatening, shaming or based on co-regulation and needs-driven.
Most couples seek therapy when a significant amount of damage has already been done. Maladaptive relational patterns have become entrenched, the emotional bond between partners is becoming (or is already) weakened, and there is a high level of reactivity and resentment that has been building-up through the many continuous unresolved daily conflicts and ongoing projections of unmet needs. The list can go on. Research indicates that the average couple is unhappy for SIX YEARS before seeking couples counseling. I work with couples in any kind of relationship, whether dating, engaged, living-together, or married. Couples therapy helps by bringing issues to the table, which can include unresolved childhood trauma or current problems, all of which causes stress, confusion and defensive protectors to sustain the relationship. Common areas of concern addressed in couples therapy include issues with trust, intimacy, substance abuse, spending/money, parenting, sex, infidelity, in-laws, health issues, infertility, transitions, emotional distancing and frequent conflict. Couples Check UpEvery marriage or partnership can benefit from a periodic check-up. Parenting, career, family responsibilities, health issues, and daily problems in life and living, impact every relationship. Over time, couples slowly start to disconnect, spend less time doing fun things together, sometimes close off their inner lives with each other.

We owe the recent improvements in our relationship to couples therapy with Suzanne. She was very supportive and helped us create a healthy relationship vision that has been a life-saving tool for us.
Our marriage definitely needed a check-up and we are in a better place because of it.

Suzanne helped us focus on the strengths of our relationship and also where we needed to grow. We kind of knew some of it, but also couldn't see the deeper areas we needed to look at. She named the places where we were stuck and defensive and helped us shift that and be vulnerable with each other. It was well worth the time and money and we are doing much better than before."

I reached out to Suzanne when my relationship started to fall apart. We were only married for five years and I was pulling away from my wife and didn't know why. After doing couples therapy I noticed changes in myself and in my marriage. Everything got better mainly because the communication improved and it started with me opening up. It wasn't easy to do this work but I am forever grateful to Suzanne for helping me see some things I didn't want to admit. She saved our marriage!
